Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture’s safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture improves the body’s functions and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites--commonly referred to as acupuncture points, or acupoints. The most common method used to stimulate acupoints is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into the skin. Pressure, heat, or electrical stimulation may further enhance the effects.

Chinese Herbs/Formulas: Dr. Tong provides unique and customized herbal formulas geared toward each client’s specific needs. The herbs are prescribed to restore energy balance to the opposing forces of energy – Yin and Yang – that run through invisible channels in the body. The herbs can act on the body as powerfully as pharmaceutical drugs. Chinese herbs not only control symptoms effectively, but also boost the functions of your organs and immune system. They nourish every part (blood, vessels, muscles, tendons, skin and organs) of your body in very specific ways.

Herbal Pills: The herbal pills do not differ too much from the formulas in their purposes; however, the pills are already formulated for specific things and lack the customization that the herbal formula’s provide.

Cupping: Cupping involves placing of glass jars on the skin and creating a vacuum by suctioning out the air. The underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup. The purpose of cupping is to enhance circulation, help relieve pain, remove “heat” and pull out the toxins that linger in your body’s tissues. It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.

Moxa: Moxa, mugwort, is a Chinese herb that is used in moxibustion, which is a method of heating specific acupuncture points on the body by burning an herb material close to the skin. This technique can be used alone or in combination with acupuncture. Moxibustion can be used to prevent diseases and maintain health as part of tonification treatments to help strengthen the organs and immune system. It warms the meridians and expels cold. It can be used to promote circulation over areas of chronic pain or muscle tension. It is especially used for pain that is worse with exposure to cold or damp weather, as with some types of arthritis pain.
