Before Your Appointment:

After Your Appointment:

  • On the day of your appointment, please do not brush and/or scrub your tongue as the doctor will need to take pictures and examine your tongue coating.
  • Make sure that when you are scheduling your acupuncture appointment that you are not engaged in too stressful an activity before or afterward. In addition, do not overbook yourself on the day of your appointment, as you want to be relaxed during the actual acupuncture treatment.
  • As a precaution, it is important to bring a list of all your current medications and supplements, particularly if herbs are a component of your treatment. This is because there are certain herb-drug interactions that can have harmful effects. MAOI’s or blood thinning medications, including Warfarin, may fall into this category.
  • Please eat before your appointment. We recommend that you eat something light approximately two hours prior to your treatment. Having a big meal before your appointment may cause you to feel uncomfortable during your treatment. If you go to your appointment on an empty stomach, you risk feeling lightheaded.
  • We recommend wearing loose-fitting clothes on the day of your appointment. This will make it easier for the acupuncturist to place the needles in the right places.
  • Avoid consuming too much caffeine before your appointment; at least two hours before.
  • At this time, all clients are required to wear masks in the clinic. If you have any flu-like symptoms, please visit your primary care physician (PCP) before coming to the clinic.
  • You may feel a little sore in the places where acupuncture needles were inserted. To get relief, apply a warm compress on the areas that are sore, unless told otherwise by the doctor. Remember, acupuncture works to remove blockages and facilitate energy flow. Heat helps in this process, and helps the healing process.
  •  We recommend that you rest after your treatment. Avoid exerting yourself physically and mentally.
  • After an acupuncture treatment, opt for light exercises if you are a physically active person. Do not go for anything strenuous as it will be counterproductive.
  • Avoid coffee and alcohol, as both dehydrate the body, and they will not help in removing the toxins. After acupuncture, the body will release toxins that need to be flushed out. Hence, drinking water is the key to eliminate toxins from the body.
